“From a early age, perhaps the age of five or six, I knew the when I grew up I should be a writer.  Between the ages of about seventeen and twenty-four I tried to abandon this idea, but I did so with the consciousness that I was outraging my true nature and that sooner or later I should settle down and write books.” (George Orwell, Why I Write, 1946)

The first time I wrote something for other people to read was when I was 7 and we were asked to contribute something to a classroom newsletter. I wrote out a poem my father had taught me (in my very best handwriting) and drew a picture to go with it. Seeing my work on a mimeographed sheet of paper sparked something in me that never went away. Through teenage years of bad, angst ridden poetry to many attempts to write fiction and non fiction all the time carrying on as if I really wanted to be part of the real world. One day I realised that being a writer isn’t what I wanted to do it’s what I am.
Whether it’s finding the poetry in my shopping list to scribbling notes for a social comment to reviewing in my head every television programme and movie i watch….I am a writer.
So here is the outpouring of my furrowed brow and fevered imagination a collection of my writing and picture taking, the things that make me smile, make me think, what I believe, what I fear, what I hope and what I love.
